Educational Psychologist Assessment - who is this service meant for?
An assessment by an Educational Psychologist is the highest level of testing for dyslexia and as such is used to identify dyslexia for a variety of different purposes. For example:
A child possibly requiring a Statement of Special Educational Needs
To provide understanding for a child’s school or educators about their special educational needs
For adults to apply for additional support in employment through 'Access to Work'
To provide evidence of dyslexia for Disabled Students Allowance in Higher Education.
If you are unsure as to whether you need an Educational Psychologist Assessment, then please call Indigo on 0845 347 9322 to discuss your options.
How long does an assessment take?
Assessments vary in length due to the complexity of the needs and the purpose of the assessment, but two to three hours is the norm.
What will happen on the day ?
On the day you will meet, in private with a qualified Educational Psychologist at the Indigo Dyslexia Centre. The Psychologist will assess your reading, spelling and writing and, if necessary, your numerical skills. An assessment of your problem solving and cognitive skills will also be undertaken, if that is needed as part of the evidence to demonstrate dyslexia.
What will the assessment tell me ?
The assessment will identify your strengths and areas for development in relation to the difficulties you are experiencing. It will also identify, in broad terms, ways in which you could be helped to overcome those difficulties.
What happens after the assessment ?
The Educational Psychologist will write a report for you. You will then receive your Assessment report in the post, within two weeks. This will also include an invitation to come back to the centre to discuss the report and what the findings might mean for you.
How much does it cost ?
£360 for children aged up to 18
£450 for adults as evidence, eg claiming for DSA for Higher Education
£450 for adults for employment purposes, eg Access to Work
