Tinted Lenses Clinic

Indigo's Tinted Lenses Clinic is run in partnership with Clarity ~ Specialists in Colorimetry

If you find that words blur, flash or move around on a page when reading, you may have Meares Irlen Syndrome. This is a visual-perceptual disorder also called Irlen Syndrome, Scotopic Sensitivity or Visual Stress.

Who benefits from tinted lenses?

If a coloured overlay helps you read more clearly, tinted lenses may be for you.

Glasses will help you read when using interactive whiteboards, watching presentations, working on the computer, or simply when you are out and about and need your hands free.

You may be a child or adult who uses a coloured overlay, or who has experienced:

  • Difficulty tracking text when reading
  • Letters being blurry on the page
  • Slow reading speed
  • Satisfactory reading but difficulty with reading comprehension

What will the test tell me?

The test will specify the correct colour for your lenses.

Before the test

We recommend that you have an eye test within the last month before proceeding with a colorimetry test, to rule out any eye sight issues.

If you have a prescription, please bring it with you. If you have an NHS voucher to help with the cost of glasses, please bring this with you as it can be used against the final amount.

What will happen on the day?

Clarity's qualified dispensing optician, also a member of the International Institute of Colorimetry, will discuss your current needs and answer any questions you have regarding the use of colour.

The optician will guide you through the testing process, explain the results and talk about any further action where required.

What happens after the test?

Everyone is unique. The optician will take this into account when working with you and will advise the best course of action. Glasses are available to purchase if required.

Collecting your glasses

Completed glasses take approximately 4 weeks to prepare due to the manufacturing process.

A provisional appointment may be made for fitting and collection of the glasses at the time of ordering.
