Exam Access Assessments
All Indigo assessors are fully qualified to make exam access recommendations as required by JCQ 2012 specifications.
Parents and pupils
We can give an outline of literacy scores and processing speed to help provide supporting evidence for exam access arrangements.
Our specialists can visit pupils in school to test pupils for exam access arrangements - in groups or individually. Please contact us for a quote.
Who benefits from an Exam Access Assessment?
This service provides test results which can go towards evidence of a Specific Learning Difficulty (dyslexia) for deciding on the allocation of exam access arrangements for SATS, GCSE, A Level and Vocational examinations. This is in line with standardised JCQ Exam Access regulations.
Possible access arrangements for students with dyslexia may include:
- Extra time
- Rest breaks
- Use of a separate room
Before doing anything else you should first seek advice from the school’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo).
If you are unsure what level of assessment you need, please call Indigo on 0845 347 9322 to discuss your options.
Please note that this test is primarily used for SATs, GCSEs and A-Levels. If you are an adult, you may need a specialist teacher assessment or educational psychologist assessment. If in doubt, contact your accrediting body.
What will happen on the day?
You will meet confidentially with a teacher who specialises in dyslexia at the Indigo Dyslexia Centre in Norwich. The specialist teacher will do an hour of tests to test reading (speed, accuracy and comprehension), processing speed, spelling and writing.
What will the assessment tell me?
The test will show your scores on the following:
- Reading accuracy
- Reading comprehension
- Speed of processing
What happens after the assessment?
You will get your results on the day and can discuss the implications with our specialist. You can then take the results to school.
Please bear in mind that if your results are above the standardised threshold set by JCQ, you are not guaranteed exam access arrangements.
How much does it cost?
An Exam Access Assessment costs £94 (inc. VAT).
How do I arrange an assessment?
