Study Skills Support
Individual Study Support for Higher Education Students
Many students with dyslexia at University are provided with assistive technology and an allowance for non-medical helpers. Often this includes study skills support. This part of your Disabled Students Allowance can be used to employ a tutor to meet with you and aid you in your studies. Here at Indigo we have a number of tutors who are trained in dyslexia who understand their role in supporting you, and have experience of helping individuals such as yourself to make the most of your studies. We can arrange a tutor for you at whatever point you are in your course, often within days of you contacting us.
You may not know you are entitled to a tutor? If you received IT equipment for your studies in Higher Education because you are dyslexic, then it’s possible you may also have the ability to take advantage of tutoring but are not aware of it. If you think this may be the case, please collect your paperwork together and call us, we can review this and tell you if you are entitled to this support.
How the tutors will work with you
How do I know if this service is suitable for me?
Before you start with your tutor you will be invited to meet with them to discuss your needs. You will discuss any particular difficulties you are having, how much support you are entitled to and would like to receive. Also when and where you would like this support and what you are studying and the work this entails. How long are the sessions and when are they held?
The sessions are normally one hour in length and in the main held at the Indigo Dyslexia Centre. How much will this cost me?
The sessions are paid for by student finance england and Indigo will claim the price of these back. You will not need to pay for any sessions directly out of your own pocket, however, we will need you to sign against the hours you have done with the tutor, so that they can be reimbursed.Where do I go to learn more?
