Coloured Overlay Testing

The condition is a visual-perceptual disorder called Meares-Irlen Syndrome (or just Irlen Syndrome), Scotopic Sensitivity, or simply Visual Stress.

Who could benefit from this test?

The test is designed for both children and adults who feel that they may have scotopic sensitivity, for example people who experience:

  • Difficulty tracking text when reading
  • Letters being blurry on the page
  • Slow reading speed
  • Satisfactory reading but having difficulty with reading comprehension
  • Personal interest

What will the test tell me?

This test is specifically designed to establish whether reading through colour will help you to perceive text more effectively. If so it will establish the correct colour to use and give an indication as to whether further assessment by an optometrist is required.

What will happen on the day?

On the day you will meet with a qualified adviser who will discuss with you your current situation and answer any questions you have regarding the use of colour, they will guide you through the testing process, explain the results and talk about any further action required.

What happens after the assessment?

Everyone and their situation are unique. The adviser will take this into account when working with you and advise as to the best course of action. Overlays are available to purchase if required.

How long are the appointments and when are they held? The appointment is half an hour. Appointments are available from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday to Friday

How much does it cost?

An overlay test is £14 (inc. VAT) per person.

How do I get tested?
